I read/ have read your email

Imagine that you receive an email from a friend telling you about a very serious problem. You decide to reply. How would you start?

A - Dear Mike,
I read your email and I think that...

B - Dear Mike,
I've read your email and I think that...

I think I would prefer option B, since it focuses a bit more on the present and on the fact that I am aware of his problem.

Do you agree?

Thanks in advance.

SpeedyGI think I would prefer option B
Yes. I (slightly) prefer it, too. It makes the reader aware that the next step in the current exchange of ideas has happened.

Option A, however, is also perfectly good. I wouldn't waste a lot of time trying to analyze the examples in any great depth in trying to make a decision between them.
