I pull a hair for...

So hello everyone,

My name's Clement, I'm from France near Paris and I positively love the English language, so here I am.

My first post will be about a phrase I've heard watching "Rome" series. A character says "I pull a hair for what my brother will do". Using the context, I understood that this phrase expresses contempt, more or less, but I've searched for it in idioms dictionary, and couldn't find anything. Is that an archaic form ?

If anyone knows...

Thanks,

Clem.

Normally, you're pulling hairs out of exasperation. I haven't seen the series. threadID=600005396&start=30 I know what Octavia meant by her tone and the look on her face, but the saying "I pull a hair for" doesn't make sense to me.

I haven't seen the series.

I wouldn't know what ancient Roman superstition the author wanted to exemplify here, but other viewers seem to have found that expression strange too:

Thanks a lot, so I'm not the only one who's been "shocked" by such words. I've searched every English dictionary I have at home (that is... 2), and couldn't find anything about it.

Well, T guess one could argue that this phrase is some sort of an artistic license by the authors... don't know.

Thanks anyway.

Maybe it is an authentic Roman idiom translated into English.

I've never come across the expression, but from the references at Google, it must mean something like "I couldn't give two cents for...", or another expression I can think of that refers to a particular portion of a rat's anatomy.
