I never heard of his name. VS. I never heard his name.

I never heard of his name. VS. I never heard his name.
I never heard of the company's name. VS. I never heard company's name.

The usage of hear of and hear is always confusing so is there a meaning and usage difference between hear of and hear in each sentence or which one is correct?
