I never ever watched cricket.

Is the word `ever' needed here? because I think, never itself is (no + ever).

A tentative yes to that one. Essentially the same, but there would be a reason why someone chose to say never ever instead of simply never. There would be a reason for the extreme emphasis. It's not something you say a lot.

Perhaps the person who never watched cricket just didn't have the opportunity to do so. Perhaps they wish they had watched cricket. You can't tell.
