I need your help.

I came across these sentenes on the glossary.

1) Biometric plays a significant role in security systems.

2) Timing is of vital importance in photography.

Significant and vital have similar meaning, don't they?

What 's the difference in the meaning between these words?

More specifically, Can't I say " Timing is of significant importance in photography ?

Then, vice versa, is it ok to say " Biometric plays a vital role in security systems?

Could you give me some explanation ?

Thank you in advance.
