I need to lay down.

Hi

In theory, I know this sentence is grammatically incorrect.

I need to lay down for a while.

BUT, isn't it rampantly common even among educated native speakers? Almost like a "It's me." VS "It's I." case -- where the 'wrong' version "it's me" is considered better?

Please let me know.

I can hardly imagine anyone using It's I in everyday conversation, but I can easily imagine people saying I need to lie down .

It is, but so is lie down.

Thanks.

I think I couldn't get my point across.

Isn't "lay down" a so-called grammar mistake now? It is not only way too common but also does not grate on any native ear. Right?

It grates on the ears of many native speakers.

The disapproval of 'It is me' was always artificial and pedantic'. That form has alwas been used by all but a small minority of the population', including, in private conversation at least, bu many educated speakers.
