I need to know how do you call this exam in english

When you fail a course but your grade is good enough that they let you take an extra exam to see if you actually pass the course.

in spanish this is called "examen de ampliacion"

I did not suggest that, because to me a 'make-up' examination is offered when one has been sick, or otherwise unable to take the original examination.

when i was student, it doesn't matter for us if the cause was the sick or one was unable to take the exam,
i dont know how to call in english, sure thing, it called in french "ratrapage", it is a nightmare for students.
