I need some help...

Hi all,

Which is correct and why?

1) When I went shopping last Saturday, I saw a man driving his car onto the sidewalk.

2) When I went shopping last Saturday, I saw a man drive his car onto the sidewalk.

IMO the first one is fine. You can paraphrase "....I saw a man WHO WAS driving his car...."

Both are correct
You can see a man do an action; here you just state what he does/did
or
You can see a man as he is/was doing the action. This way of speaking is more descriptive

I think the two sentences have a different meaning. Maybe they are both correct...

Verbs of perception can be followed by either a bare infinitive or by the -ing form.
I hear her come in
I heard her coming in

He saw her fall
He saw her falling

etc...

As I said, the -ing form is more descriptive, like in a film, you saw, heard... the action BEING PERFORMED. With the bare infinitive, y
