I need much more books???

Please look at the following question.

I need ____ books
(a) many more (b) much more

The correct answer is (a) many more. I couldn't understand why (b) much more can't be the other answer.
Are we often speaking as "we need more books"? "Much" can definitely modify "More".
Couldn't someone explain to me why (b) much more can't be an answer?
