Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you to apply for the Master's Degree in Management of Development. I found out about this Masters program when I was taking a “Procurement Management in the World Bank funded projects” course in the XXXXX. During three weeks of training I spent my time with use and pleasure. I was impressed with the capable tuition, excellent organization and the creativity-encouraging atmosphere of the training center. Besides, my interest in this Masters course is underpinned by my previous working and academic experience.

Since 2000 I’ve been working in an agency implementing the World Bank projects in Russia in the educational area. From the very beginning I was fascinated with the projects’ magnitude and importance for the Russian society and I was proud to work in these of projects. It is rewarding to see how the ideas outlined in the initial project papers convert into reality, and to realize that I am a part of this process.
I think educational projects are especially important, as they deal with the public sector, most vulnerable in the transitional economies and most crucial for further development of the nation. My duty in this agency primarily was with one of the Project’s programs, the Textbook Reform Program, which involved organizing competition among textbook writers and publishers with the aim to create innovative textbooks. After that, I changed my position to that one of a procurement specialist at the same agency. This position improved my vision of the project as a whole, procurement being an essential part of each program. I took every opportunity to find out more about procurement, so I participated in the seminar on procurement, organized by the World Bank and in a training program on public procurement.

During this time, I became increasingly interested in such topics as Public Sector Management, International Assistance to Development, Development Agencies’ Programs and Management of Development. At the same time I was studying in the University xxxxxxxx, Department of Economic Science. I obtained a degree in Economics in June 15, 2005. While I was studying I paid special attention to the above mentioned issues. The two of my term papers and my degree work were dedicated to the World Bank projects and activities. Although I have been focusing primarily on procurement issues I feel the urge to get better insight into how projects are launched and managed.

Accomplishing this Masters program will enable me to achieve a broader knowledge of development issues and project management. It will also grant me a unique experience of international team-working and exchange of ideas in this subject matter. This will significantly strengthen my professional position. On obtaining this Masters degree I am planning to pursue my career in the projects governed by developmental agencies.
