This concept can be manifested in a variety of ways such as love for the fellowman and most important, the love we express to our own self. Holly Black’s “Night Market” is a great faery tale that demostrates how far a person can go in order to fulfill the well being of a close family member. Usually achieved by developing trust on others, obtaining high self-esteem and by not creating prejudgment of other people.02br 02br 00 00The faery tale is about a girl who tries to save her sister from an elf's curse. Tomasa, the main character, goes out to the night market, “The Fairies Market”, in order to find the cure for the curse. Soon the elf does not seem so bad afterall. However, it is important to consider that the perception and prejudgement Tomasa has towards the elves as creatures of bad and untruthful and people’s story and comments she heard about it where also negative. This concept is adressed by Pate Glenn who states that:02br 02br 00“00People who have low self-esteem tend to find fault with other people specially if they are different in some way stereotyping them, and hold negative attitudes toward them”. (Pate 1). 00There are times when we think a person may be liked or disliked by the looks and stories behind the person but,not until we deal with them we find out the oppposite. Inevitably, people usually pre-judge others just by their looks or by forming a concept from other people’s opinions, but once a relationship is established with that person we discover that the person is not as bad as we though. Sometimes we find ourselves involved in situations where trust is essential part of a relationship and we come to rely upon it as a contract between two people. At first, Tomasa did not trust the elf but once she developed a relationship with him she began to trust him more to a point that the elf fell in love wit her.02br 02br 00 00In the “Night Market” the story teaches the importance of learning to love ourselves as for who we are and not how people percieve us to be and viceversa. At first Tomasa lacks self-love thus gives the perfect setting for the story to develop. She did not care for the rain falling over her,as well as00 00wandering through the street of the town and having cars stopping by or the dangerous times she went through on her way to the market.00 02br 02br 00 00She considers herself to be an ugly person due to her birthmark on her face. She had the idea that nobody was going to fall in love with her She then, begins to develop trust on herself and begins to build her self-esteem by not letting her appearance take over.. “The night market” Tomasa thought that because of a birthmark clearly visible in her face, nobody including an elf, was never going to like her or fall in love with her, but surprisingly enough, the elf fell in love with her.00 02br 02br 00 00Self-esteem is a sentimental value of our being, of who we are, and the value of our mental, spiritual, physical composition as Maureen considers that 00“00Self-perceived physical appearance has the strongest relationship to overall self-esteem”. (Maureen 1)00. It is the characteristic that configures our personality. In Self-esteem is an important developmental element in human kind. The factors that determine how we look and feel about the image we project from ourself towards other people. Not only allows us to discover what could be wrong with our conduct, but also allows us to find out what is causing that to be wrong and therefore, correct the fault .The person with low self esteem, that is, with deteriorated self image does not have a clear image of self they become a failure in their endevours, they autocritisize themselves, they feel guilty about their failures as well as the other people failures.they feel they are a liability to others, they feel unsure to make a decision even if it is00 00a guaranteed success.they doubt themselves, and they go whereever00 00others want them to go.To help people with low self esteeem is necessary first,to create an incentive to make them feel secured with what their doing.,followed by the slow reconstruction of self image .the image of a person who becomes invincible and no matter what obstacle they encounter they will be successful.Once this is achieved00 00the person begins to climb the pyramid of self esteem which is the creation of an auto evaluation and self respect in order to crown a positive self esteem. In “the night market” Tomasa was exposed to a situation in which only with her own personality and her qualities was able to get out with success, however the elf was able to bring out those qualities she has. Qualities such as trust, tolerance and understanding in order to come out of the situation a different person. After the experience Tomasa becomes a person with a high self esteem a more secured with herself ,she is not afraid to makes the right decisions, she does not allow others to influence in her decisions, every step is guided towards success ,she does not fear mistakes ,she accepts mistakes and ammend them towards success, because for her every mistake has a solution. She does not fear00 00challenges ,she takes on any situation and fullfil it with greatest success.02br 02br 00 00The conduct of a healthy personality relies upon a well-balanced and healthy mind. The developing of self-love during adolescence will counter act those intrepid and dangerous experiences. By being tolerant with other people a trust worthy relationship can grow. Ultimately, by associating all these qualities a high self esteem can be easily achieved.00 02br 02br 00 02br 02br 00Bibliography02br 02br 00Pate, Glenn S.
