00Chapter One: Hell's Inhabitance02br
02br
00Our world as we know relies purely balance. Every dark has a light. Every Heaven has its Hell. However rules, it seems, were destined and meant to be broken.Because nothing in this world is ever what it seems and questions put forward about fate, why we exist, can never be answered by simpily just asking. Why am I telling you this. Because I have witnessed first hand what happens when balance, as delicate and as fragle as it is, shifts, when darkness is allowed to rule without light or consequence, when there is no day to accompany the night. The day were our world ended and a new began.02br

00The war between humanity and the armies of the dammed had waged for centuries, an endless campaign of bloodshed lasting for nearly two hundred years. It began long before anyone was aware of it, concealing itself behind every city and every wall. Unseen with mortal eyes the inhabitance of Hell walked amoung us, hideing behind a veil that concealed them from our world. They waited in the shadows, in the darkness, obseving our every movement, learning our every weakness.Decades they remained this way, unable to cross onto our plane. It was not until the gateway, between our worlds, opened, did we first become aware of their existence. This doorway, neither guarderd nor secured, could not be closed and we paid for it dearly. Chaos in all her might had eventually succeeded, giving way to an era of terrible on-slough.Unlike the era's of the previous centuries, which were defined by war or plague, this one was defined by blood and the once natural order of things toppled. Mortal enemis became welcomed allies in our last desperate attempts to swing the war into our sway. Decisions were made and executed all to no avail and we failed miserably. The day soon came when we would make the most regrettable decision we would ever make. The entire fate of humanity would be decided with the most simplest of actions, a pen to paper. As ink flowed in the from of a name the permission was given to bomb the skys and destroy our last remaining cities. 02br
02br
00Victory it seemed would be within our grasp. The immortal armies we called the fallen laid lifeless at our feet and the bloodshed ceased. We underestimated them. For every one of thier dead slain another ten arose to take its place and before long thier numbers became countless. They spread throughout the regions leaving wakes of blood and devastation to follow in their paths. Humanity had been thrown into a war that they could not win. Most of us had no choice but to continue to fight, despite the obvious outcome. We fought now not for wealth or power, or for what our adversaries might give. Instead we fought for our lives. We fought for just one more day to live.We fought to keep from being annihilated. Thousands would lie dead long before the realization that hope had died with the screaming echoes of the innocent, fading as time wore on. Still, few of us refused to fade into the emptyness. We took up arms and set out to bring back the balance, to restore what once was. I am one of the them, the last of the rebellion order.02br

00I tast blood. I'ts not mine. Opening my eyes I look to see a droplet of red fall from the mattress above me.I hold my breath hopeing that the beating of my heart will not give me away. I had smelt them in my sleep, a putrid vile smell that can only be familiarized with something dead.02br
02br
00They were thrashing around the room, peering under old boxes and searching neurotically for my location. A soft breeze had swept in through a shattered window and they sniffed the air, filling their lungs with excitement as they cought for a brief moment my sent. My eyes glance outward, turning my gaze to a piece of bloody white cloth that lay shredded on the floor. It was then that I realized my partner Reece was dead.02br
02br
00The creatures would not be leaving any time soon. They felt me, just as I had felt them and they would tear this room apart in search of me. Moving towards the bed they begin ripping at its base, creating deep impressions on the rotted floorboards. I then remembered the cloth bandage I had wraped around my arm. It was seeping giving off the sent of blood. I knew then that the thin board between them and me would no longer keep me safe.02br
02br
00The wind once agian had changed its flow, this time constent and towards me. The creatures stood on their hind legs breathing the air with delight, their back claws digging deep into the wooden floorboards for balance. When they returned to the ground they seemed unusual, different. Normaly they were loud, attempting to make as much noise as they possibly could. This was soft, quite and very slow. "Shit", I whisper to my self. If they dident know were I was then, they knew now. Reaching for my gun I hold it tight to my chest, my fingertips lightly touching the trigger. The creatures glance at one another and let out out cries. I wanted to cover my ears, but was not willing to risk loseing my grip. They walk slowly towards the bed and begin clawing at the board in front of me. I lay still, trying to control my breathing to be as light as possable. Razor sharp claws begin to tear through the board, hitting mattress. They stared at me through the whole, their cole black eyes never loseing there focus. Our eyes lock, their faces so close to mine I could feel the warmth of thier breath aganist my skin. We looked into each others eyes for about a minute and for a second eternity was real, experienced, that is when I blinked. At that moment the concentration between us was broken. The one closest to me lunged, leaving itself exposed and very vulnerable,a fatal mistake. Together they were lethal, efficient killing machines capable of anything, alone however, thay made easy targets. I fire my gun straight between the creatures eyes. It falls back dead, never realizing it had a mistake. The other stops and hisses in anger as it watches its comrade fall lifeless.02br
02br
00Takeing the opportunity I host my body into indent under the bunk, useing my arms and legs to hold myself steady. Quickly the creature regains back its focus, glanceing in through the whole. When it doesn't see it begins slowly twitching its head from side to side, ensuring itself02br
02br
00I coulden't have escaped. The pressure from holding myself up strand my arms, causing my bandage to bleed heavier and a drop of liquid crimson fell to the mattress below. The creature gives an ear shattering scream and breaks through the now almost nonexistent board. It lands back first, kicking and tearing at the sheets that were slowing it down. Positioning itself to jump, It opens its jaws wide, exposing rows of deady arsenals.I focus and steady my gun, pulling the trigger. The creature lands dead on the bed below, letting out a slight breath, its last.02br
02br
00I leap down to the floor, careful not to touch the black blood that was already starting to burn through the sheets. Their blood is acid, anything that comes into contact with it desolves instantly, including flesh. Tossing the board in front of me aside I reach under the bed for the rest of my gear and weapons. I look up and for the first time since yestarday I see my partner. His body was severely mangled. He had deep gouges running from his face to his stomach, exposing his insides. In anger I kick the creature closest to me in its side and slide down aganist the bed sobbing. 02br

00Reese and I had been tracking the two of them for days, chasing them up and down through the broken glass and burned out buildings of what once was downtown L.A. We were following the entrails of a tracer round we had shot into one of the creatures a day earlier. By nightfall it had managed to tear the bullet out, leaving the empty shell to lie in rubble. We found the round near a small condemned building, the only one in the area that wasn't completely leveled. When darkness had completely engulfed our sky, we knew are best chances would be to continue the search in the next mournings light, where at least we would have the advantage of our eyes. We decided that the building would be the best place to wait out the night. It looked liked it was about to collaspe, but weighing the options between being exposed and having a roof over your head, we wouldn't be complaning. Inside was like trying to breath with plastic over your face, a cloud of dust and broken plaster had settled in the air makeing it thick and hard to inhale. One of the doors leading to a bedroom was broken and leaning aganist the rim. The room must have belonged to a child, because the beds in the room were bunk and meny toys laid broken and scattered on the floor. With no sign of the creatures for hours I suggested we should sleep. Reese paid for my decision with his life and I regret it terribly.02br
02br
00Getting up of the floor, I attempt to gather my thoughts. The bodies will have to be burned. If they are not destroyed quickly others will come and soon they will seek revenge, hunting the hunter. The creatures are made of ash, ash and acid. They burn easily and fire is clean, it leaves no traces. So burning them is the best method. Searching around the room I look for anything that might start a flame. There was not much, a couple pieces of furniture, old boxes and some broken glass. I then spotted a gasoline can wedged underneath the floorboards. that will work, I thought to myself smiling. Picking up the gas can I begin dousing every flammable object in the house. I will burn down this place and every memory in it. Walking over to Reece I search for his gear, knowing I could possibly need it later. I don’t even look into his face and close any emotions that I might have, a trick you learn when most of the people around you die. My fingertips brush against something metal, I look down. It was an object that meant the world to Reece, a cross necklace that his girlfriend Ray had given him. Heartbroken now more then ever, I unlatch the delicate metal from around his neck and place it in my pocket. Ray was still alive and would be waiting for his return, but now the only things coming back to her is a damaged best friend and a lovers bloody neckless. Once at a safe distance I light a flair and throw it into the building. The house goes up in flames, becoming as red as the dawn sky above me. I stay to watch as the house begins to disintegrate, capsizing under its own weight. It soon becomes the familiar ash that surrounds it and I am glade.02br

00It would be another five days before I would reach the rest of my team. They were in the white zone part of the city. A place surrouned and protected by a barrer of perpetual ash. The wide areas surrounding it are considered the dead zones, which are places that are unprotected from those who hunt us. It wouldn't be easy crossing alone, but it had been done before. The new world city is huge about twice the size of New York, or at least when New York was still around. You can travel for miles without comeing into contact with a single soul, or for the most part any human soul. We call it a city, However a graveyard is a more appropriate term. It's bleak, just about every building is condemned. Every door and window are eather broken or boarded up. Skyscrapers have been striped to their structural skeletons and are crumbling down due the years of un repair. The City of Angels had become a demons playground. The outskirts of the city belong to the dead and the dammend. Souls doomed to eternal punishment reside there, some dead others dieing. Those who survive long enough to make it to the safe zones are recruited, given weapons, and sent out as defence. That is how I ened up fighing for the Order. I was found, trained, and sent out before I was ready. The fact that I was female seemed to make little or no difference, but it also diden't help. You could work twice as hard as the guys and still be treated frail. Old traditions die hard, trust me. Even when most of the rules have gone out the window. 02br
