Sometimes it is best to let our children discover life for themselves. You can't always be there to protect them from getting their knees scraped and other assorted bumps and bruises. It is part of getting older. She also has friends in college and she will learn from them too.

Also, I would caution against putting something sensitive in an e-mail. Those bits and bytes can readily traverse across millions of miles on copper wires and fibre optic cables in only a heartbeat. You just never know where that information will travel to, knowingly or unknowingly.

If you do want to write something, I encourage old fashioned paper. Make sure that your original file is secure or, even better, destroyed.

One of the challenges too is that your daughter or others can search key phrases of your letter and this thread will become visible. This discussion is open to the world.

You might be better to have a heart-to-heart conversation with your daughter and then let her explore life on her own. Some of our best learning comes from the School of Hard Knocks.
