I need help explaining a Grammar Mistake

Ok. So I know this sentence is wrong, but I can't come up with a good way of explaining why. Can someone help me?

"This doesn't have much to do with the topic, but why did you delete your original account and made a new one?"

I know it should say "make" instead of "made." Why?

Hi Vextex,

Welcome to the forums.

Here's the key: Why did you...[bare infitive]...?

Well, I understand that "delete" is a bare infinitive, but what property of bare infinitives determines that the next verb is "make" instead of "made?"

The "did" carries over. Why did you delete and [why did you] make?

you always have present tense with "did"?

Why did you go? (Correct)

Why did you went? (Wrong)

Similarly

did make is correct and did made is incorrect.

Yes, once you have the verb "to do" conjugated for person and tense, (He does, I did, etc.), the other verb is in the bare infinitive (the "to X" with out the "to") -- which is not the same as the present tense.
