Sometimes therapy can prove to be futile. The patient may need more than what therapy alone can provide. As mentioned before, each therapist has different techniques to communicate with a child. Some parents may not feel one therapist provide the help their child may need. As a result, the parents may therapist-hop in search of the right therapist. Parents also stop therapy all together, which is not a wise decision. In doing so, parents do not allow for techniques to be implemented. Therapist-hopping and stopping therapy may cause a child to regress versus improve their mental state.

For example, some patients may resist treatment, while others go, to sessions, but to no avail. Several parents may also not feel a therapist could provide the help their child may need.
