I mustn't work

A student wrote these sentences.
I am not sure how if and how to amend them. Can you help me?

I like Friday because the day after I mustn't work.
(perhaps I don't have to work sounds better but I would not know how to explain it. Any suggestion?)

In the spring the colours of flowers are very beautiful. (I am not sure I have ever hear it. Maybe simply 'beautiful' is better?)

I like to watch them I like Saturday because I can stay in bed until late. (Is it a common verb phrase or 'stay in bed late' is better?)

Top answer

The first sentence doesn't make sense to me. The second is acceptable. And the third one should be I like Saturdays because I can stay in bed longer.

Thanks a lot Cozy.
Could you help me with the first sentence?
If 'I like Fridays because the day after I don't have to work' does not work and it would be my try, what do you think would work better?

Thank you in advance

I mustn't work. ie I am not allowed to work,, I am forbidden to work.

I don't have to work ie I am not required to work, it is not necessary.

In the spring the colours of (the) flowers are very beautiful. (I am not sure I have ever hear it. Maybe simply

It does work. I'd change the word order a little, though.

I like Fridays because I don't have to work the next day.

You can forget about mustn't. That makes no sense.

Sorry, one last thing. I have just realized I did not copy the paragraphs correctly.
In particular, the one about 'flowers' should read like this:

'In the spring the colours of the flowers are very beautiful. I like to watch them'

I wonder whether it is possible to 'watch' the flowers. Don't we usually 'look at' them??

Yes, look at. Or perhaps see.

Technically, yes. You would want to watch them very carefully if you thought they were developing a plan to escape from your garden!
