I m writting a motivation letter for a documentary course, they ask a very short one

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 Armenia took the path towards democracy, one of the most challenging forms of government. The role of media in the process of democratization is crucial, as it is the «fourth authority», and it is one of the most effective tools in mobilizing societies around some public or social problems.

In this context Documentary Photography is very important, as frequently it is the only persuasive fact to attract more followers and push the case forward during the negotiations with state officials. Unfortunately there is a lack of skilled professionals in the field of Documentary Photography, and I would like to have my part in overcoming this problem. This is why I am interested in your Documentary Photography Workshop. Other main interest to this program derives from the fact that it will be carried out by an experienced documentary photographer Patrick Sutherland. This will be a good chance for me to listen about his experience and about the modern trends in the field of Documentary Photography.

While earning my BA degree in the field of Philology and Pedagogic I gained extensive knowledge of Italian and English languages. During my studies I have been actively involved in Social and Youth life. Within my previous and current work experiences in the social field both in Armenia and in Italy I have been highly involved in the issues of Youth participation and Human Rights. Since 2008 I am actively involved in “Federation of Youth Clubs of Armenia” youth NGO. Activity within this NGO enabled me to acquire organizational and good communication/presentation skills.

I am motivated to participate in this workshop very much, as it will give me all the necessary techniques, after which I am going to collaborate with local media with the special focus on online media. Moreover, it will add my professional confidence in carrying out different projects on Human Rights and Social issues using my photo camera and creativity as an effective tool. Combining competences and skills which I hope to get from the workshop with my previous experience I believe I can bring my solid aid to fill the gap of Photojournalism in Armenia.
