I like this poem of hers best.

Dear ALL,

When you read a sentence; "I like this poem of hers best.",

which of the followings do you take for its meaning?

1. the person likes the poem best in the world

(you like this one best of all poems in the world and it was made by her)

2. the person likes the poem best of her poems

(maybe you like other person's poem more than this one)

If you take No.2, then how do you say

when you like this poem (which was made by her) best in the world?

Dear Clive,

Thank you very much for your answer.

I thought "this poem of hers" is just simply to mention "this poem written by her" .

But according to your answer, it is not.

By saying "this poem of hers" , the range of the topic itself is narrowed.

Thank you. This is my first time to know that.

So, would you be so kind to let me confirm one t

Hi,

would you be so kind to let me confirm one thing?

Are these following expressions normal? No.

"this her poem"

"that my hat"

"these their desks", etc.

Or we should say Yes

"this poem of hers"

"that hat of mine"

"these desks of theirs" etc. ?

Clive
