I like it when ....(what´s the function of it?)

Why do you use "it" in this sentence "I like "it" when she talks to me"? Can´t you just say "I like when she talks to me"? I don´t understand the need for "it". Can you explain it to me?

It's an idiom, thus you need to do what the natives are doing. The meaning is approximately, IMO: I like the situation when ... I like the feeling of the situation when ...

I'd agree with Marcus. "Like" is transitive, and so requires an object; "it" here is a dummy, and supplies the verb with an object.
