I know of a place

Anna: Well, I enjoy dancing.
Marcus: I know of a good place for that. If you're free this weekend, I'll take you.

For a start, what does "know of" mean? If I replace it with "know," do I miss some of the meaning?
Second, is it better to say "I'll take you there?" Thanks.

Saying that you "know of" a good place might suggest that you have heard about it, but have not actually been there. "Know" suggests that you have personal experience with the place. If you are talking with someone about a place, it isn't necessary to use "there" since it will be immediately understood by both speakers.

Thanks, Spide and Clive.

Based on your replies, it seems to me that "know of" is quite close to "hear of" in meaning, right?
