I know a man who can speak English.

Can we explain "restrictive relative clauses" with conjunctions? I think that conjunctions such as "and","but", etc. are related to "non restrictive relative clauses". For example,

I know a man who can speak English.

= I know a man + He can speak English.

I know James, who can speak English.

= I know James, and he can speak English.

So my point is that there is no omission of conjunctions in restrictive relative clauses. What do you think? Thank you so much as usual and I hope to hear from you again.

  • They could equally be written this way: I know a man who can speak English.
  • = I know a man and he can speak English.

Thank you sir, but as far as I know, there are no meanings of conjunctions in defining relative clauses. What do you think? Thank you so much.
