I just thought I’d try to connect

Please help me to understand the usage of would in this sentence?!

""I really enjoyed your style, so I just thought I’d try to connect.""

My question is why don't we say I just thought I should connect you or I just thought I connect you. could you give me some more example to digest this structure. Thanks in advance.
