I intended (on) doing something (?)

Dear Users,

Is the verb "intend" usually followed by the preposition "on" the same way that "plan" is? Or is it followed by a to infinitive?

1) I initially intended on changing apartments.

2) I initially intended to change apartments.

Thank you
