1. Topic: Genetic engineering is an important issue in society today. Some people think that it will improve people’s lives in many ways. Others feel that it may be a threat to life on earth. What is your opinion?

2. My essay:

In recent years, It cannot be denied that a key area of modern scientific research, with broad implications for all human societies, is genetic engineering. While I accept that this field of technology may have its dangers, I believe that the benefits of genetic engineering outweigh the drawbacks.

There are the negative implications of genetic engineering often discussed in terms of several major areas, including food production and the cloning of humans. Genetically, people are concerned that growing modified crops, which are already resistant to disease and natural predators could harm entire ecosystems. People may think that is wonderful; however, with ecosystems, that can make an imbalance. Furthermore, most people concur that some genetic engineering-induced changes to genes may have a long-term detrimental impact on their health. Skin cancer may be at risk for someone who, for instance, tries to alter the body color by altering the gene structure. Finally, it is acknowledged that genetic changes can lead to natural imbalances.

Despite the above arguments, I believe genetic engineering is contributing positively to our daily lives. One of the major advantages is that it makes crops more resistant to insects and diseases, as the changes are usually made in a way that alters the setting of the negative effects. For instance, crops nowadays are healthier and larger with regard to production. In addition, some inherited illnesses will no longer exist in the human body due to the changing characteristics of genes. Furthermore, scientists are developing cures for different deadly diseases using this technological advancement. In my view, genetic engineering is a blessing of science for us.

In conclusion, genetic engineering certainly has its drawbacks, but I believe the benefit outweighs them in the long run.
