I heard ... that is or that was?

I heard some stories related to this subject that is or was you would become workaholic

I am confused what kind of tenses I will be using in this sentence can someone explain it to me.

Embedding the meta-word "or" with no indication that it is not an actual part of the sentence is confusing. When showing alternatives, it is clearer to use a slash ("/"): I heard some stories related to this subject that is/was you would become workaholic. This sentence is incorrect with either choice.

  • This sentence is incorrect with either choice.
  • You don't need either "is" or "was", but with these removed the sentence is still a bit awkward to read because of the material intervening between "I heard ...
  • that".
