I have two sentences that were red flagged!

1-"There was a girl sat on the carpet."
2-"The banging became loud, rather than acknowledge it, she looked away and continued to hum."
I got flagged for these two sentences, I think they made a mistake, in the first one can you spot any grammar problems? How about the second, I thought it was an okay example of Past Continuous.
I've been asked twice to remove "There was," is it a tightening exercise because I cannot see the grammar mistake?

You have another example here. You wrote three sentences and connected them with commas. Apparently at some time you fell into the habit of using commas between sentences instead of periods, so you'll have to watch yourself more carefully about that in the future.
