Vocabulary

I have two questions. Need your help. Thanks.

Dear all,
I have two questions.
One is that I don’t understand the part of sentence in the following sentence “. thus making for a more standardized experience for visitors to the site. ” Could you explain this short sentence to me? Thank you.
Facebook though worked differently, it insists that users give their real names
and contact details. It also allows for less customization of a user’s “page,”
thus making for a more standardized experience for visitors to the site.

The other question I don’t understand the exact meaning of open in the following sentence? Thank you for your explanation.
The default privacy settings are very open, so users are recommended to check them to make sure that only the people they want to share information with can see it.

The default privacy settings are very open...

Like an open door or window, where anyone can see in, the privacy settings are not very strict.
