IMHO it should be: What (kind of) writer do/did you use? I tried to burn a CD-R yesterday but it didn't read any of my discs. But wait for a native.

IMHO it should be:

What (kind of) writer do/did you use?
I tried to burn a CD-R yesterday but it didn't read any of my discs.
