Dear all,

I would like to know which of the following expressions are commonly used by native English speakers.

1) I have tried to give him advice, but he wouldn't listen.

2) I have tried to give him advice, but he won't listen.

3) I have tried to give him advice, but he didn't listen.

I prefer that one:

"I tried to give him some advice but he refused to listen."

That is the one I would be most likely to use.

I think I'd skip the present perfect construction entirely because it leads to the heavy
