What does it mean that for example, if a man is speaking during lecture, and suddenly stop and says "I have to slip something"?

"I have to slip something." is ungrammatical and makes no sense. The only thing that would make sense is if the lecturer said: "I have to slip into something.", and then quickly puts on a costume, say, a hat and cape, and says: "And now, as _______ , I'll deliver the rest of the lecture, which deals with _______ ."
