"I have to buy a new car. This one is too old" in the reported speech.

Hello,

I have some problems with converting this sentence:

"I have to buy a new car. This one is too old"

into the reported speech.

Could you, please, check out my version?

He said that he had to buy a new car saying/adding that that one was too old.

I'm not really sure what to do with "this one".

Thank you

I don't know how much latitude you have, but I might try "He said that he had to buy a new car, adding that his present one was too old."
