Here is my take:

Hi New2grammar,

May be I am missing something...You completely lost me with your examples. Are you suggesting the left sentence equal to the right in meaning and grammar?

Is he sitting here a long time? => Has he been sitting here a long time?

I meant to say the left sentence should be rephrased to the right sentence. I guess I shouldn't have used the symbol '=>' as it also carries the meaning of implication.

I guess that telling is an action which does not go on and on. Therefore, n2g chose to use simple past instead of present perfect. Am I right n2g?

NJ,

This time you are correct with this context. When did he tell you ? This is an adequate sentence without having being present perfect. However, in other contexts
