I have question as to we do not use did in negatives and questions with was/were.

Hi.

I have question as to we do not use did in negatives and questions with was/were.

In my text book, it was written like this , note that we do not use did in negatives and questions with was/were.

But i don't know what does mean above note.
Would you please let me know more?

Did is used to form the negative and question form in the past. He ate: did he eat? he didn't eat However, with the verb to be we use was/were with out the helping verb: He was at the movies; he wasn't at the movies; was he at the movies?

  • Did is used to form the negative and question form in the past.
  • He ate: did he eat?
  • he didn't eat However, with the verb to be we use was/were with out the helping verb: He was at the movies; he wasn't at the movies; was he at the movies?
  • I hope this helps.
