i have never or i had never

When i asked someone "Have you ever seen Avengers?" and the it answered "i have never seen this movie".

Is that correct? Can I answer Ï had never seen this movie"?

I always get confused with this.

Thanks

" If you haven't seen it, the usual answer would be "No" or "No, I haven't". " is used for going further back in time, relative to something that is itself in the past. For example: "A man came over and introduced himself.

I believe that the film is called The Avengers, so the correct question would be "Have you ever seen The Avengers?"

If you haven't seen it, the usual answer would be "No" or "No, I haven't".

However, for the purposes of your question, "I have never seen that movie" would be the correct tense

"I had never seen ..." is used for going further
