I have never or I had never

Can you tell me the difference please in these two sentences?

I’m not distressed because the missing two were things I’ve never been taught.
I'm not distressed because the missing two were things I'd never been taught.

I'm leaning towards 'I've' since now they are things that I have learnt, whereas had is more finite. Is that right?

thank you
