I have never heard it before

Hi, I am a bit confused.


When someone says to you something, and you reply "I have never heard it before".


It sounds incorrect to me since using "present perfect" is including the present.


So I'd think that the correct reply would be either

1. I never heard it before

Or

2. It's the 1st time I've heard it


I'd appreciate your explanation.
