Essay & Composition Writing

I have just written an IELTS task 2 essay. Please give me some feedback. Thank you very much.

Recent research suggests that the majority of criminals who are sent to prison commit crimes after they are released.

Why is this the case?

What can be done to solve this problem?

According to some studies, most criminals tend to reoffend as soon as they are released from prison to get back to normal life. This essay will address two primary factors leading to high rates of recidivism, and later some measures that can be taken to alleviate the problem.

From my perspective, our living environment and social prejudice can result in former inmates becoming repeated offenders. Firstly, living in deprived areas where the crime rate is high can significantly affect a person and partly leads him to commit a crime. Offenders usually grow up in those areas, so when they are released, return to those places, and get in contact with bad people, they may jump the tracks and go back to their previous dark path. Secondly, some people hold a belief that criminals can never give up their negative habits, so they refuse to give former inmates a chance to turn their life around. Living in isolation and social prejudice discourages criminals from changing, thereby making them reoffend.

Fortunately, we can all give a hand in helping former prisoners lead a better life with some practical measures. It is crucial that the governments or social organizations provide former inmates with proper jobs in a healthy working environment where they feel loved and supported instead of feeling pushed aside. We should also include them in as many local and social activities as possible for this will act as an incentive for them to turn over a new leaf. Last but not least, local authorities should ensure that there are frequently held campaigns which educate offenders and remind them of the need to become helpful people to their families and the society. This can inspire them to try persistently each day even when they are surrounded by temptations and negative examples of people living around them.

In conclusion, it can be easy to fall into old traps of crimes and wrongdoings if former criminals live in a bad environment and are treated as an outcast from society. However, as long as we are determined and take action to help offenders, there is a chance of them transforming into good citizens and never committing a crime again.

MANY THANKS!

According to some studies, most criminals tend to reoffend as soon as they are released from prison to get back to normal life. The main reasons for high rates or recidivism are the background of the criminals and prejudice against ex-offenders. Both society and the authorities can lend a hand to help reformed criminals to be good citizens. Thi
