I have exorcized my demons and won't talk about it at all.

Hi

Could you please help me understand the highlighted sentence?

[There was a long scandal. Mary was speculated about with John and she hated it. In her interviews she expressed great dislike for John and then refused to talk about him at all on any occasion.]

Interviewer- Now after so many years have passed, could you look at the John episode more objectively?

May- Ah, I have exorcized my demons and won't talk about it at all.

Thanks,

Tom

PS: Is my use of "speculated about" correct?

Hi Tom. I have exorcized my demons . The demons are something that used to bother her (a problem individually for her) and because she has exorcized them she is rid of them, therefore no longer has the problem.

Hi Tom

My assumption would be that that sentence refers to the fact that people speculated about Mary's relationship with John. Maybe people speculated that Mary was secretly having an affair with John.

You can say "People speculated
