I have been unemployed

I know that "I have been unemployed for 2 years" is right in grammar and meaning, but if I say the sentence without "for 2 years", the sentence is wrong in grammar? I think I can say, "I have been unemployed" when the period is not important or people already know how long. What do you teachers think about it? Thank you so much as usual and have a good day.
