I have been coughing vs I have coughed

What are the differences between the two following sentences?

1.I have been coughing badlly for the past few days.

2.I have coughed badly for the past few days.

If I say #1, I started coughing a few days ago, and I am still coughing.

If I say #2, I coughte badly for the past few days, but now I stopped coughing.

Am I correct?
