I have a question about the meaning of a sentence in a movie

In the beginning of 'the Godfather' Don Corleone says 'one day, and that day may never come, I'll ask a service of you'. I am curious, does 'may never come' mean 'it's possible that that day will never come' or 'i hope that that day will never come'?

If you wanted to say that you hoped that day would never come, it would be "and may that day never come".
