I have a question

Currently, I am learning English, so I have a question:

I want to join Past Simple with Past Simple Passive in one sentence.

Which one is correct?

- I saw a man killed.

- I saw a man is killed.

Thank you for assistance.

Top answer

The first sentence is correct. The second one is wrong. However, this is not really a combination of two tenses.

  • The first sentence is correct.
  • The second one is wrong.
  • However, this is not really a combination of two tenses.
  • The word "killed" is just a past participle without the auxiliary required to make it a true passive.
  • The use of "is" or "was" as shown in your second sentence would be wrong in this context.

To combine two true tenses you could try: "I saw the man as he was car
