Can someone please help me and tell me why or why not the following sentence is correct or incorrect. I am sure that it is ok in this sentence to follow "then" with the verb "came" but someone disagrees with me
"Then came the day in 2003 when he had to fly into space."
Your help is greatly appreciated!
ChicagoExPat Then came the day in 2003 when he had to fly into space. Fine, including "then". Adverbs of time (like "then") are commonly seen at the beginning of sentences.

Adverbs of time (like "then") are commonly seen at the beginning of sentences. There's nothing unusual about that.
The only thing a little unusual (because it's literary) is the use of inversion, i.e., came the day instead of the day came.
