I have a general question on usage of currency symbol "$" along with cents. Is the below sentence correct? (in written english). Should we need to delete either dollar symbol or cents in the sentence.

Pls suggest.

Don't use the word "cents" (or "dollars" either, for that matter) if you use the $ symbol. 10 = ten cents.

Does the $ go before or after the amount? £1 is usual in Britain, but on the continent it is mixed between [Euro]4 and 4[Euro]. What about $?

It goes before, just as I have written it.
