I have a book and a pencil case.

1. I have a book and pencil case.
2. I have a book and a pencil case.

Hi,
I think both are correct and have the same meaning. Yes?
I'm asking this to be sure if it's OK to use just one "a" in #1.

Thank you.

I would accept #1 if they're being viewed as one "parcel." Otherwise, #2 is the correct form.
