I hadn't even met you yet

.
LORELAI: Right. I mean, we're not warring or anything, but it's just that we're very different, and I feel kind of weird sharing things with her.
NATALIE: Look, I promise you, I haven't been in contact with your mother for a long time. Maybe twice she called to get a couple of names, but that was it. I hadn't even met you yet. So trust me -- she knows nothing that you haven't told her yourself. (gilmore girls 405)

Hi,

The underlined part means, from the context until now, that Lorelai's mother doesn't know that Natalie already met Lorelai.

It seems that such a complex meaning is being expressed in so simple way. I wonder this way of expressing "She doesn't know that I already met you" through "had PP" is a common way.

And, I guess it should be some botherin work, but I'd be delighted if the logic in this sentence structure is explored and revealed.

I assume that using "haven't met" instead of "hadn't met" will not be of the same meaning.....
