Hello. Which one of the following two sentences is correct or more natural? I am struggling with tenses when telling stories. Thank you.

Later, I gradually incorporated his teachings in my life, becoming a new person.

Later, I have gradually incorporated his teachings in my life, becoming a new person.

If this happened a fairly long time ago, and that's when you became a new person as the result of incorporating his teachings, use the first one. If you became a new person very recently as the result of incorporating his teachings, use the second one. CJ
