I got you/ I got it

Hi,

Two people had a conversation on the bus. After one finished his sentences, another person replied, " I got you. I got you."

I'm wondering whether that meant " I understand what you just said." or something similar? I also heard people use "got it" too and I'm wondering what the difference is. Thanks!

Both can mean I understand. I got you (doubled) could mean "Okay, already, I understand, now be quiet" or "I fully agree".
