I found it was impossible to swim across the river.

Does the above sound right? If not, how would you revise it? Thanks.

It sounds fine. The only variant that comes easily to mind is to leave out was . find is an unusual verb in that it allows such a construction.

The only variant that comes easily to mind is to leave out was. find is an unusual verb in that it allows such a construction.

It sounds fine to me. However, if you found that as recent news or a known fact, you can replace was with is.
