I don't understand this

A:"Gloria, it's either this, or we're in the motel."
B."I don't like the sound of that. A lot of amenities disappear when an "H" turns into a 'M'."
A:"You know when I met you, you were eating cereal out of a bucket."

What I don't understand is, why do a lot of amenities disappear when an H turns into a M?
And why is that something so curious for a kid to say? Is it because it's too sophisticated?

Because m otels are usually very cheap when compared to h otels. Being cheap, motels have to cut their expenses, and as a consequence, most amenities are gone (actually they were not there in the first place).
